I was going to see my cousin in the hospital. I was debating if I
should go; because I just visited her two days ago and we were not
very close. I was not sure that she would want me there again so
soon. I still wanted to go. I also wanted to also let her know
how much I appreciated how she helped give me a start in life with
my business. When I was young she was one of my first customers
with my landscape business. She and a lot of other family and
friends gave me a shot. It eventually led to me opening the
business I have today. Any way, I decided to go visit her again.
When I first got there she still had company. We all talked, mostly
about how it was a shame that certain things were happening in the
world. My cousin spoke about how the hospital made a mistake during
someone's procedure and it ended tragically.
After her friend left, we talked more. This time she began to talk
about my grandfather and some of the wonderful things he did for me
and my cousins. She spoke about how he took me fishing and took us
on his boat. She spoke about many things that she considered
beautiful. We talked about how we are both morning people. She
spoke fondly about hearing the birds in the morning and planting in
her garden. She spoke with a gleam in her eye. Suddenly I looked
up and the whole room was lit up with a bright light. I couldn't
see anything but her face and all this bright light. I felt like I
was floating. I instantly knew that God was coming through, and
this was a spiritual experience. She was still talking happily
about the beauty of life as I sat there marveling at the spirit and
love in the room. Soon I had to leave.
When I got home I opened up Wise Words, my second book, and read the
page that says "I'm much different when my students are around." I
knew that this was my experience with my cousin. When the subject
of truth and spiritual things come up, for me life is much
different. I also knew when we were talking there was no ego in the
room. There were no longer any concerns about what is he or she
going to think about what I am saying, etc. This is when the light
can come through. I know this for a fact because I have experienced
it many times before when in conversations with my teacher and other
people. I was reminded that this is what life is all about. Life
is about connecting with the light that runs through us all. During
such times there is no me there is no other person, just the light.
Also, later I felt that it was the light that led me to go see her
that day.
The next day, my sister called to tell me that my cousin kept
talking about how much she enjoyed talking with me. She said that
she mentioned it over and over. My cousin may not have seen the
light in the room, but on some level she felt it all the same.
It's important that we share what is beautiful and true when we see
one another so we can bring out the light within us all. If we take
out time to meditate on the sound and the light within, we may even
be able to see and witness the light when it begins to shine.
